After the August 2026 Flash Flooding in Harrison County
August 2026 was rough on Harrison County. Elk Creek flooding was reported in Clarksburg on August 16. On August 17, local officials said a little over two inches of rain fell in roughly 25 minutes. Simpson Creek put several feet of water on Wayne Jamison Field at Bridgeport High School, and Clarksburg firefighters went to homes to shut off electricity and natural gas as basement water rose.
Weeks or months on, water that soaked into drywall, insulation, subfloors and crawl spaces can still be there. That’s where mold gets started. If your home or business took water in August, it’s not too late to have it dried out and rebuilt. Begin with a free inspection.
Harrison County flood resources are on our Bridgeport and Clarksburg flood recovery page. We can’t answer FEMA questions or tell you what FEMA or your insurance company will decide. We can dry your house out and put it back.
Why the Creeks Come Up So Fast
Clarksburg grew up where Elk Creek flows into the West Fork River, and Bridgeport takes its name from a bridge over Simpson Creek. The county’s rolling hills drain to the West Fork and its tributaries, so when a heavy rain hits, the small creeks and runs rise quickly and water heads for low spots and basements.
Basement Water, Sewage Backups and Burst Pipes
A lot of Harrison County water calls start below ground: groundwater after a long rain, a sump pump that quit, a sewer backup in a heavy storm or a pipe that split in the cold.
- Sewage backups are Category 3 water and need careful cleanup. See sewage backup cleanup.
- Burst pipes: we make temporary fixes to stop the water until a licensed plumber assesses the damage. The plumber handles the pipe. We handle the drying and rebuild. See frozen and burst pipes.
- Groundwater and flood water: we remove it and dry the structure. See water damage restoration.

Then We Rebuild, Old House or New
Clarksburg is one of the state’s oldest cities, with a lot of older homes and downtown buildings: stone or block basement walls, plaster, original woodwork. Bridgeport has newer neighborhoods next to its older homes. Either way, we look at how the building was put together before deciding what can be dried and saved.
When it’s dry and clean, our crew rebuilds under WV Lic. #WV064509:
- Drywall and insulation
- Flooring
- Trim and cabinets
- Paint
Hauling out flood-ruined carpet, drywall and furniture? We provide cleanout labor and 16-yard roll-off dumpsters. Call for pricing and rental terms. For a structure that can’t be saved, see building demolition, including demolition permits and asbestos testing coordination. Thinking about a bigger remodel during the rebuild? See our general contracting page.
Commercial Properties Along I-79 and U.S. 50
Bridgeport sits where U.S. 50 meets I-79, with offices, medical buildings and other businesses near the interstate. When a commercial property takes water or fire damage, we handle the restoration and the rebuild. We also remodel and add on to existing commercial buildings.

Bridgeport & Clarksburg Repair and Rebuild FAQ
Our basement flooded in August and looks dry. Should we still have it checked?
Yes, it’s worth it. Moisture can stay trapped in walls, floors and crawl spaces, and that’s where mold starts. The inspection is free.
What parts of Harrison County do you cover?
Clarksburg, Bridgeport, Nutter Fort, Stonewood, Anmoore, Shinnston, Salem, Lost Creek, West Milford and the rest of the county.
Do you clean up sewage backups?
Yes. Sewage is Category 3 water. We clean it up safely, dry the area and rebuild.
Do I need a separate company for repairs after you dry it out?
No. The crew that runs the fans and dehumidifiers is the crew that hangs drywall and finishes the floors.
Do you work with my insurance?
We work with any and all insurance companies. We don’t waive deductibles. Ask your adjuster what they need from your contractor.
Will you replace the pipe that split?
That’s a job for a licensed plumber, who assesses the damage and does the permanent repair. Our part is a temporary fix to stop the water, then the dry-out and rebuild.
We had a kitchen fire. Can you help?
Yes. When the fire department says the property is clear, we get the firefighting water out, remove burned and soaked materials and rebuild the space.
Do you work on businesses?
Yes. Commercial restoration and rebuilds, plus remodels and additions to existing buildings.
