Two Towns, Two Kinds of Houses

Clarksburg is one of the oldest cities in West Virginia. It grew up where Elk Creek meets the West Fork River and was chartered in 1785. Its biggest growth years came after the railroad arrived in the 1850s, which left the city with a lot of older homes and downtown buildings. Think stone or block basement walls, plaster, original woodwork, and wiring and plumbing that were updated a piece at a time.

Bridgeport sits where U.S. 50 meets I-79 and is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state. You’ll find newer neighborhoods there next to older homes, along with offices, medical buildings and other businesses near the interstate.

Basements After the August 2026 Flash Floods

Flash flooding hit Harrison County hard in August 2026. Elk Creek flooding was reported in Clarksburg on August 16. The next day, local officials said a little over two inches of rain fell in about 25 minutes, and Simpson Creek put several feet of water on Wayne Jamison Field at Bridgeport High School. In Clarksburg, firefighters shut off electricity and natural gas at homes as basement water rose.

A basement that looks dry now can still have water in the drywall, insulation, subfloor or framing. Remodeling over that is asking for mold. Red Ridge is an IICRC-certified restoration company, so we can check it, dry it and treat it before we rebuild:
