A musty smell in the basement, dark spots creeping across drywall, or staining after a leak are all signs that moisture has been sitting somewhere it shouldn't. Mold needs moisture to grow, so lasting mold remediation means fixing the water problem as well as cleaning up what you can see. Red Ridge Contracting is an IICRC-certified, WV-licensed (License #WV064509) local contractor that handles the whole process, from finding the source to rebuilding.

  • A recent leak, flood or water damage event that wasn't fully dried

Our Mold Remediation Process

  1. Free inspection. We look for visible growth, signs of moisture and the likely source.
  2. Find and stop the moisture source. A leaking pipe, roof leak, poor drainage or leftover moisture from a past flood has to be addressed or the mold will come back. We find the source and dry the area out. For a leaking pipe, we make temporary fixes until a licensed plumber makes the permanent repair. For storm damage to the roof, we can put emergency tarps over roof openings to keep water out. Plumbing problems such as burst pipes and roof damage from storms are common causes.
  3. Containment. Affected areas are isolated to help keep spores from spreading to clean parts of the building.
  4. Removal and cleaning. Mold-damaged materials that can't be cleaned, such as drywall or insulation, are removed. Salvageable surfaces are cleaned.
  5. Drying. The area is dried thoroughly to discourage regrowth.
  6. Rebuild. As a licensed general contractor, we replace drywall, insulation, flooring and finishes so the job is complete.

Serving Homes and Businesses Across Five Counties

We work throughout Upshur, Lewis, Randolph, Barbour and Harrison Counties, including Buckhannon, French Creek, Tennerton, Weston, Jane Lew, Elkins, Philippi, Clarksburg and Bridgeport. Many homes in the area have basements, crawlspaces and older construction where humidity builds up, and many properties near creeks and rivers took on water during recent flooding. If your home flooded and was never fully dried, it's worth having it checked. See our Upshur and Lewis flood recovery page for more resources.

Mold and Your Insurance

Coverage for mold varies a lot from policy to policy. Mold caused by a sudden, covered water event, such as a burst pipe, may be handled differently from mold caused by long-term humidity or an ongoing leak. We work with any and all insurance companies. We document what we find, explain the scope of work, and meet with your adjuster when needed. Learn more on our insurance claim repairs page.

If insurance doesn't apply, financing is available through Acorn Finance.

What Not to Do

  • Don't disturb large patches of mold or try to scrub them dry, which can spread spores.
  • Don't just paint over mold. It can keep growing underneath.
  • Don't run fans or HVAC across a moldy area without addressing it first.
  • Don't ignore the moisture source. The cleanup won't last without fixing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I clean mold myself?

Very small spots on hard surfaces can sometimes be cleaned by a homeowner. Larger areas, mold inside walls, or mold that keeps coming back usually needs professional remediation and a fix for the moisture source.

Will the mold come back?

Mold returns when moisture remains. That's why we focus on finding and fixing the water source and drying the area, not just removing visible growth.

Does homeowners insurance cover mold remediation?

It depends on your policy and the cause. Mold from a sudden covered water event may be treated differently than mold from long-term humidity. We work with any and all insurance companies and provide documentation.

Do you repair the walls and floors after removing mold?

Yes. We're a licensed general contractor, so we handle the rebuild after remediation.

My house flooded months ago. Should I be worried about mold?

If materials weren't fully dried, mold can develop out of sight. A free inspection can help you find out.
